Lesie and Lawrence Crowson in Split, Croatia This statue honors Grgur Ninski (Gregory of Nin), a Croatian religious leader from the 10th century. Ivan Mestrovic, the most famous Croatian sculptor of all time, created this statue a long time ago. Strangely, it is a custom to rub his big toe when you go past him. (The statue’s toe, not the artist’s; otherwise, that would be too weird to put on my website.) If you look closely, you’ll see that Gregory of Nin is also holding a copy of The Plantation . . . You rock, Grgur! |
