Peter Vultaggio in Prague, Czech Republic This photo was taken down the street from the Charles Bridge, which connects the Old Town with Mala Strana and eventually leads to Prague Castle. The initial idea was to build a functional bridge for knight tournaments, decorated with only a simple crucifix, but the Catholic desire for ornamentation eventually took over. From 1600 to 1800, 30 statues were erected on the bridge. (Now there are over 75.) SECRET
FACT: The Catholic fascination with statues actually has an important role in
Sign of the Cross. |
