It sounds weird, but the most important fort in the history of Georgia was built by a rich man from Poland. Hell, I didn't even know Polocks were allowed in the South ― that's why I pretended to be John Grisham for most of my book tour. Anyway, Fort Pulaski stands on the Atlantic Seaboard, halfway between Savannah and Tybee Island, and guarded the Georgian Coast during the Revolutionary & Civil Wars. The fort is equipped with an intricate canal system, dozens of cannons, and a working moat. Unfortunately, the idiot built the moat on the inside of the fort and couldn't figure out why it wasn't keeping the enemy out until he was killed in battle . . . OK, I made that up. Just a little Polish humor.
